PES Hawaiian Spores
$9.94 – $106.50Price range: $9.94 through $106.50
PES Hawaiian is a Psilocybe cubensis strain from Pacifica Exotica Spora, collected in Hawaii’s volcanic island environment. It produces fine, delicate spores that are somewhat smaller than average — an interesting contrast for researchers comparing morphological variation across cubensis strains.
Description
Pacific Island Mycology
PES Hawaiian was cataloged and distributed by Pacifica Exotica Spora, the same vendor responsible for PES Amazonian and several other notable cubensis isolates. This particular strain traces to the Hawaiian Islands, where Psilocybe cubensis was introduced alongside cattle ranching in the 19th century. The volcanic soils, consistent tropical moisture, and abundant bovine substrate created ideal conditions for the species to establish. Hawaii’s geographic isolation from other cubensis populations adds an interesting evolutionary dimension to this strain.
Microscopy Observations
PES Hawaiian spores tend to run slightly smaller than the cubensis average — roughly 10–13 × 7–8.5 micrometers — with a more narrowly ellipsoid shape. This finer morphology makes them a useful complement to larger-spored strains when teaching students about intraspecific size variation. Print color is medium purplish-brown, typically not as intensely dark as heavyweight depositors like Treasure Coast. The spore wall is relatively thin and smooth, and the germ pore can require careful focus to resolve at lower magnifications.
Growth Form
Fruiting bodies from the Hawaiian lineage are characteristically slender and tall. Caps are small to medium, 20–40 mm in diameter, maintaining a convex to bell-shaped profile longer into maturity than many strains. Cap color is a light golden-tan, sometimes nearly white in young specimens, darkening slightly with age. Stipes are thin, elongated, and flexible rather than rigid — a growth form sometimes described as gracile. Colonization proceeds at a moderate pace with fruiting optimal at 23–27°C, consistent with Hawaii’s stable tropical temperatures.
Why Include PES Hawaiian
Island populations are inherently interesting to biologists because geographic isolation can drive divergence from mainland relatives. PES Hawaiian, with its slightly smaller spores and more delicate growth habit, may reflect adaptation to the specific ecological conditions of the Hawaiian archipelago. For a well-rounded cubensis reference collection, it fills the “Pacific Island” niche alongside Amazonian, African, and Asian isolates.
Intended for microscopy, taxonomy, and educational research only. Review local regulations before purchasing.
