The B+ strain is attributed to a mycologist known by the pseudonym “Mr. G,” who reportedly developed it through selective isolation work during the 1990s. While some accounts suggest B+ may incorporate genetics from Psilocybe cubensis crossed with another species — a claim that remains unverified and scientifically doubtful — what is clear is that the resulting strain exhibits unusual adaptability. B+ grows successfully across a wider range of temperatures and substrate types than most cubensis varieties, which has cemented its reputation as one of the most reliable strains available.

B+ spores are subellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid, measuring 12–14 × 8–9.5 micrometers. Print color is dark purple-brown, and deposits are generous without being excessively heavy. The spore wall shows moderate thickness with a smooth exterior surface. One characteristic that microscopists note is the consistency of spore size within a given print — B+ shows less size variation than many strains, suggesting a high degree of genetic stabilization from its years in cultivation. The germ pore is cleanly defined and positioned centrally at the apex.

Physical Appearance

B+ produces large fruiting bodies — among the largest in commonly available cubensis strains. Caps are caramel to light brown, broadly convex, sometimes exceeding 70 mm in diameter. The cap surface is smooth and often features a slight sheen when fresh. Stipes are long and firm, frequently 150–200 mm, with a solid white interior that bruises blue. The partial veil is robust, leaving a pronounced annulus. B+ is notably temperature-tolerant, fruiting successfully from as low as 20°C up to 28°C — a range that exceeds most cubensis strains. It colonizes quickly and contaminates rarely.
