Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ordering, storing, and studying mushroom spore syringes from SporeStore.com.

About Our Products

What are mushroom spore syringes?
A spore syringe is a sterile syringe filled with distilled water that contains mushroom spores in suspension. They are used for microscopy and taxonomy research, allowing you to study spore morphology under a microscope. SporeStore.com syringes are 10cc and contain millions of spores. Each syringe comes with a sterile needle and protective cap.
What is Psilocybe cubensis?
Psilocybe cubensis is a species of mushroom in the family Hymenogastraceae. It is the most widely studied species in amateur mycology due to its distinctive dark purple-brown spore prints and wide geographic distribution. Originally found in tropical and subtropical regions, cubensis has dozens of known strains (varieties) with different geographic origins and morphological traits — making it ideal for comparative microscopy research. See our complete strain guide for details on every strain.
What is the difference between cubensis strains?
Cubensis strains differ in geographic origin, colonization speed, spore production, and visual characteristics of the fruiting body. For example, B+ produces large caramel caps and heavy spore deposits while Penis Envy has thick dense stems with minimal sporulation. Under the microscope, subtle differences in spore size and surface texture can be observed between strains. Our Strain Comparison Guide has a full side-by-side breakdown.
What is the difference between spore syringes and spore prints?
A spore syringe contains spores suspended in sterile water, ready to deposit onto a microscope slide with precision. A spore print is a collection of spores deposited directly onto paper or foil from a mushroom cap. Both are used for microscopy, but syringes are easier to work with for beginners because you can control the amount deposited. Spore prints require scraping spores off the print and rehydrating them.
Are your spores guaranteed viable?
Yes. All SporeStore.com spore syringes are guaranteed to contain viable, observable spores suitable for microscopy. If you receive a syringe with no visible spores under the microscope, contact us and we will send a free replacement immediately.

Microscopy & Research

Which strain is best for beginners studying microscopy?
For microscopy beginners, we recommend B+ and Golden Teacher. Both produce abundant, well-defined spores that are easy to observe and identify under a basic microscope. They deposit heavily, so you will have plenty of material to work with on each slide. Check our Strain Guide for recommendations by experience level, or start with a 4-Pack Sampler to compare multiple strains.
What equipment do I need for spore microscopy?
At minimum: a compound microscope (400x magnification or higher), glass slides, cover slips, and a spore syringe. Optional but helpful: staining agents (methylene blue), immersion oil for 1000x, and a camera adapter for documentation. Our Beginner's Microscopy Guide walks through everything in detail, including how to prepare slides step by step.
Can I use spore syringes for anything other than microscopy?
SporeStore.com sells spore syringes exclusively for microscopy, taxonomy, and educational research purposes. All sales are made with this understanding.

Storage & Shelf Life

How do I store spore syringes?
Store spore syringes in a refrigerator at 35–46°F (2–8°C) in a dark location. Keep the needle cap on and store needle-side up. Do not freeze — ice crystals can damage spore cell walls. Properly refrigerated syringes maintain viability for the longest possible period.
How long do spore syringes last?
When refrigerated properly, spore syringes remain viable for 6–12 months or longer. At room temperature, viability decreases more quickly — typically a few weeks to a few months. Always shake before use to redistribute spores that have settled. If the solution looks contaminated (unusual colors, cloudiness beyond normal spore suspension), discard it.

Legal Questions

Are mushroom spores legal?
Yes, in most of the United States. Mushroom spores do not contain psilocybin or psilocin — the controlled substances are only produced during later stages of fungal development. Spore syringes sold for microscopy are legal products in 47 states. California, Idaho, and Georgia have state-level restrictions, and we do not ship active spore syringes to those states. Gourmet mushroom spores (oyster, morel) are legal everywhere with no restrictions.

Ordering & Shipping

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, and cryptocurrency. Paying with crypto — Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Solana, and more — saves you 10% on every order. It's easier than you think. See our crypto payment guide for step-by-step instructions using apps like CashApp, Venmo, PayPal, or Coinbase.
How long does shipping take?
Orders are processed and shipped within 1–2 business days. Standard shipping via USPS takes 3–5 business days. Expedited shipping options are available at checkout for faster delivery. All packages are shipped discreetly.
Do you ship internationally?
Currently, SporeStore.com ships within the United States only. We do not ship active (Psilocybe) spore syringes to California, Idaho, or Georgia. Gourmet spores (oyster mushroom, morel) ship to all 50 states with no restrictions.
What if my syringe arrives damaged?
Contact us immediately with a photo of the damaged syringe. We will send a replacement at no charge, no questions asked. All syringes are carefully packaged with protective materials, but transit damage occasionally occurs and we always make it right.
Do you offer bulk or wholesale pricing?
Yes! Our 4-Pack Spore Syringe Sampler is the most popular multi-syringe option and saves you money per syringe. For larger wholesale inquiries, contact us directly and we will work out custom pricing.
What is your return policy?
Due to the nature of biological products, we do not accept returns on opened spore syringes. Unopened syringes in original packaging can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Damaged or defective products are always replaced free of charge — just send us a photo.
