What You Will Need

• Your SporeStore Mushroom Grow Bag (designed for optimal airflow and growth).
• 2 oz oyster mushroom grain spawn or mycelium (sourced separately from Spore-
Store).
• 2 cups used coffee grounds (from your brews or a local café).
• Cardboard (e.g., cereal box or delivery packaging, enough for small strips to fill
half the bag).
• Scissors.
• A pot for boiling water.
• A bowl for mixing.
• A spray bottle or recycled bottle for misting (optional but recommended).
Step 1: Prepare Your Substrate (20 min)
1. Collect 2 cups of used coffee grounds. Fresh is best, but dried works if stored
properly.
2. Boil 4 cups of water, then pour it over the coffee grounds in a bowl to pasteurize
(this kills contaminants). Let cool for 12 hours, then drain excess water using a
strainer or cloth.
3. Cut cardboard into 1-inch strips (enough to loosely fill half the grow bag). Soak
the strips in hot tap water for 10 minutes, then drain well.
Step 2: Inoculate Your Grow Bag (10 min)
1. Open your SporeStore Mushroom Grow Bag.
2. Layer inside the bag: a layer of coffee grounds, a handful of cardboard strips, and ij of
your oyster mushroom grain spawn (sprinkle evenly). Repeat layers until the bag
is 1/4 full, using all the spawn.

3. Gently shake or mix to distribute the spawn evenly. Squeeze out excess air, then
seal the bag (use the built-in closure or fold over tightly).

Step 3: Colonize (13 weeks)
1. Place the bag in a dark, warm spot (70-75F, like a closet or cupboard). Avoid
opening it too often.
2. Check weekly for white threads (mycelium) will spread through the substrate. If you
see no growth after 7 days or notice odd smells/colors, contamination may have
occurred; start over with fresh materials.
Step 4: Fruit & Harvest (Ongoing)
1. Once the bag is mostly covered in white mycelium, move it to a spot with indirect
light (e.g., a kitchen counter, 65-75F).
2. Open the top of the bag slightly and mist the inside 12 times daily with water to
keep it humid (don’t soak). Fan the bag open twice daily for fresh air.
3. Small pins (baby mushrooms) will appear in about 40 days. Harvest by gently twisting
when the caps flatten out (usually 12 weeks after pinning).
4. Get Flushes: After harvesting, mist again and repeat the fruiting process. Com-
post the spent substrate when done.

• Oyster mushrooms love humidity. If your home is dry, loosely cover the bag with a
plastic sheet (leave gaps for air) during fruiting.
